Don’t Take My Balloons Away

Procreate, 2022

This is a digital painting based on a photography project that I did previously with the same title. This painting depicts a scene of a girl with balloons in a playground that is surrounded by skyscrapers, while she is “playing” in the playground but acts unnaturally than what we usually see how kids are playing there. In this painting, I’m focusing on children’s positioning in this rapidly developing society and the pressure and requirements that human society nowadays has placed on them, as well as children’s consequent mental state under this overwhelming sociocultural context. Even though the piece may not be understood by younger kids, it is the responsibility of adults to pay attention to kids’ mental state and not to let their kids fall into the trap of rate race again.
